The course, held in Abuja, featured intensive sessions covering modern coaching techniques, player development, and team-building strategies. It was conducted by IHF Instructor Mr. William De Almeida from Angola.
Among the 14 certified coaches were six women, reflecting the Federation’s growing emphasis on inclusion and gender representation in the sport’s technical development.
HFN President Samuel Ocheho praised the participants and highlighted the importance of continued investment in coaching education:
“This course is a major step forward in our continuous drive to improve the quality of coaching in Nigeria. We are particularly pleased with the participation of six female coaches, which shows that our efforts to be inclusive and broaden the base of handball development are yielding results.”

Also speaking at the closing ceremony was HFN Executive Board Member and Course Organising Committee Chairman, Husseini Mohammed, who represented the North-East Zone. He commended the Federation’s leadership for bringing the initiative to Nigeria:
“I want to thank the President and board members of HFN for bringing this course to Nigeria. It serves as vital capacity building for our coaches. Special appreciation also goes to the Director General of the National Sports Commission, who was represented at the closing ceremony by Alhaji Haruna Maigidansanma, for providing the facilities used during the programme.”
President Ocheho expressed confidence that the course would have a long-term impact on the growth of handball in Nigeria, enhancing the technical quality and development capacity of local coaches.
