Lawmakers Commend Shehu Dikko’s Contributions to Nigerian Sports as He Turns 55

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has paid glowing tribute to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu Dikko, in celebration of his 55th birthday.

In a congratulatory statement issued on Monday, Honourable Amadu — who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency of Zamfara State — described Dikko as a “transparent, visionary, and bold reformer” whose contributions have been instrumental in repositioning Nigeria’s sports sector for growth and long-term sustainability.

“On behalf of the House Committee on Sports, I congratulate Malam Shehu Dikko on the occasion of his 55th birthday,” Amadu said.

“He has devoted much of his life to repositioning the sports sector and has made significant, lasting contributions to its development.”

Amadu commended Dikko’s courage in tackling the deep-rooted challenges facing Nigerian sports administration, praising his commitment to transparency, accountability, and institutional reform.

“Dikko has never shied away from confronting structural problems. His honest and pragmatic leadership, coupled with a consistent drive to overcome the barriers holding back Nigerian sports, has earned him widespread respect,” he noted.

Though the NSC Chairman marked his birthday in a quiet and modest manner, the House Committee expressed both personal and institutional appreciation for his efforts — especially in areas such as professionalising sports governance, improving athlete welfare, and driving policy innovation.

Amadu added that Dikko’s reforms are already setting the stage for a more competitive and vibrant sports environment in Nigeria and beyond.

“I pray that you remain healthy and happy, and continue to work for the betterment of Nigerian sports,” Amadu said.

“There is no doubt that the country will, in the coming years, begin to reap the benefits of your visionary leadership at the NSC.”

Legacy of Reform

Shehu Dikko, a seasoned sports administrator and former chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), was appointed to lead the restructured National Sports Commission in 2023 as part of the Federal Government’s renewed efforts to restore professionalism and efficiency to the sports sector.

Since assuming office, Dikko has introduced a number of wide-ranging initiatives aimed at restructuring governance frameworks, enhancing investment in grassroots sports, strengthening partnerships with the private sector, and improving Nigeria’s international competitiveness in sports.

His work has earned praise from stakeholders across football, athletics, and Olympic sports, who cite his collaborative style and results-driven approach as key drivers of the Commission’s new direction.
